about

The beat tape... A staple of the hip-hop industry for over 2 decades. The internet has now made music that was once only passed around among producers, artists and executives available to the masses. Thousands of them are available, with cats from Compton to Croatia posting theirs… but what is a “beat tape”? I would define it as the sonic musings of a producer (or musician). It is the equivalent of a collection of manuscripts to an author or the private gallery of an artist.

This is my beat tape. It represents over a decade of aural meanderings through hip-hop, R&B and electro-funk stretching well back into the 90’s. Even when producing hip-hop, I was never a strictly MPC/“diggin’ in the crates” type of cat. I love those kind of tracks, but it’s not necessarily what I do.

I’m sharing this because I’ve been on a bit of a production hiatus for a few years now, and as I prepare to dive back into the musical waters, a purging of sorts felt appropriate. You gotta give birth before you can get pregnant again :-)
Enjoy!!
